Description
We are a privately owned company operating:
• The Auberge sur la Montagne, an 8-bedroom boutique chalet-hotel in Sainte Foy Tarentaise in the French Alps.
• Chalets sur la Montagne, a portfolio of 23 catered and self-catering apartments and chalets in and around Sainte Foy Tarentaise.
Our clients are primarily English and, to a lesser extent, French speakers. Internally, we work in English. For this coming ski season we will employ a team of fifteen. All will be lodged in well- presented, comfortable apartments in and around Sainte Foy. It’s an endorsement of how good it is to work a ski season with us that several of our jobs are already filled by returning staff.
We are not one of the many faceless over-expanded tour operators. With us, you’ll be treated as the individual that you are. We treat our staff with respect and are poles apart from the tour operators who jam staff into dormitories and feed them on a minimal budget. Here, at worst, you will be in a twin room and your staff meals will be restaurant quality.
Skiing-wise we understand that you want to ski (as we do). Sainte Foy is one of the top iconic off-piste resorts in the world. The skiing is sensational and you will be free to ski on 5 of the 7 days a week.
Work-wise we pride ourselves on our professional, yet informal and friendly service and are looking for staff to continue our excellent reputation gained over the last 22 years.
The jobs will start end November/ early December 2016 and finish during April 2017.
For all positions, most importantly, you’ll be a team player and extremely flexible and willing. Your spoken English must be fluent and some French would be a major advantage. You should be friendly, outgoing and must be very physically fit.
Positions we have available are:-
Chalet Couple:-
We are looking for a highly personable couple to be our lead catering couple. One of you is likely to be an experienced cook or chef. Certainly you'll be very interested in food and cooking.
We'll be doing several days of chalet staff cookery training and practice with you pre-season. Depending on your experience, we can train you up as needed. As long as you are passionate about cooking, we can get you up to scratch.
There will be a real mixture of work. Some weeks (maybe 8 weeks of the season) you will be catering in one of our chalets. Every week-end you will be cleaning, doing chalet/apartment changeovers and welcoming incoming guests. To an extent we will adapt the package and the jobs to suit the skills of the successful couple.

There will be a real mixture of work. To me that’s the beauty of the job: the variety.
Some weeks (maybe 6 weeks of the season) you will be catering in one of our chalets. Some weeks you’ll be hosting at the Auberge, maybe sous-chefing (and learning from the professional chefs) at the Auberge, maybe backing up the ski technicians, maybe helping with child-care or client transport. Every week-end you will be cleaning, doing chalet/apartment changeovers and welcoming incoming guests.
K.P./ Snow Clearer/ Back-up Ski Tech & Driver:-
We have an interesting position for someone who wants to learn some skills (and to ski).
It’s made up of a variety of roles. During the week, you’ll be the K.P. – backing up (and learning from) the Chef on whatever is needed. You’ll clean the kitchen and look after garbage disposal and recycling. You’ll be involved in local client transport, be a key part of the snow-clearing team, deliver firewood and dine-in take-away dinners to our various chalets and apartments.
We’ll train you up to look after ski equipment and on the week-end you’ll be doing ski and boot fitments under the direction of our Ski Technician. You’ll also be helping with Auberge, chalet and apartment changeovers as well as taking clients to railway and bus stations.
To an extent, we’ll tweak the job to suit the skills and interests of the successful applicant – so do please tell us what you can offer.
To apply please send us your CV and a brief e mail telling us why you would be suitable for a position with us this winter.
